Web Design

What is web design?

Web design and Web Development are rather different. The activity regarded as 'web design' typically involves:

  • Deciding where best to place the elements of a page
  • Creating digital graphics
  • Ensuring that typography is legible, appropriate and elegant
  • Ensuring that the website is accessible to all users, regardless of ability

Sometimes web design encompasses writing XHTML markup, or producing Flash movies. The term is pretty loosely defined.

When do I need web design?

You require web design when you want to define the flow that a user follows, the physical interaction with the system, the way a site looks, or its ability to provide a service to the end user.

Website visitor requirements and expectations are constantly changing. For proof of this, compare websites that existed in the nineties to those of today. Handling such changing demands upon the appearance and usability of a website is a challenging task.

What makes you different?

Having a full appreciation for the complexities of Web Development allows us to evaluate design in the context of what is possible and affordable.

We often use external designers to provide the bulk of the work, then implement the style throughout a website. We will then check with the original designers for the site's adherence to the style guide.

What about accessibility?

We're in a great position to provide accessible designs because we've been involved in research into the way people with disabilities use websites.

As experienced client-side and server-side web developers, we have excellent knowledge of implementing designs that meet the needs of all users. We do this as standard, not as an optional extra.

We can also assess your existing website's design and structure for its accessibility.
