BBC Introducing
Uploading for exposure
The BBC Introducing team needed:
- a public-facing website to allow unsigned musicians to upload their tracks
- an internal site for DJs to manage, listen, play and download tracks uploaded by artists, and to send them to colleagues within the Beeb
Working with the BBC's existing infrastructure, and a team of internal designers and developers, we got these two sites up in three months using their existing Perl infrastructure for the external site and Ruby on Rails for the internal site. We later reworked the external site for their new PHP platform.
With over 20,000 unsigned artists at the time of writing, the project's caused a real shift in the way BBC Radio discovers new music.
